MICHIGAN TWH ACTIVITY (Continued From Page 10) probably be on the pleasure Walk ing Horse. The “little” Celebration Horse Show will be held this year in Kalamazoo at the County Fair Grounds, July 10, 11 and 12. There will be 20 some classes for Walk ing Horses alone, and about 100 classes altogether. It will be an approved Show for Quarter Horses, Walking Horses, Arabians, Shetlands, and others. Mrs. Duane Fankhauser, of Otsego, Michigan, is Horse Show Chairman and has many committees working with her. Dr. Margaret Zolen and Mrs. George Prifold of Kalamazoo, are in charge of arrangements for a Style Show and Beauty Queen Con test to be staged at the Horse Show. The “little” Celebration Horse Show is being sponsored this year by a very worthy group of Kala mazoo citizens, the Kalamazoo County Civil Defense Volunteer Police Corps. Commander Mid- daugh has as many enthusiastic committees working with him as the Tennessee Walking Pleasure Horse Club has, and this Show should be one of the high-lights of the Kalamazoo and Southwestern Michigan Horse Show season. At the last meeting of the Ten nessee Walking Pleasure Horse Club the members decided to have a pot luck supper perhaps to see if these Walking Horse women could cook as well as they ride. They evidently can, as the meet ing was a great success. Seventy members were present. A short business meeting was conducted with reports from various commit tees working on the Horse Show, and an interesting talk was given by Commander Middaugh of the Civil Defense Volunteer Police Corps. New officers of the Club were announced for the 1964 sea son: Duane Fankhauser of Otsego, Michigan, president; Mel Norman of Battle Creek, Michigan, vice- president; Mrs. V. J. Miller of Paw Paw, Michigan, recording se cretary; and Mrs. Phillip Nye of Battle Creek, Michigan, corres APRIL 1961 ponding secretary. Mel and Diane Norman of Battle Creek, showed movies of the 1963 Celebration to add to the wonderful evening. The Normans own a fine young stal lion by MIDNIGHT SUN, called SUN’S PERFECTION. They have opened the Midwest Saddlery in conjunction with their Camera Shop in Battle Creek. This should prove to be a very successful busi ness, as a good Walking Horse Sad dlery was certainly needed in this area. A Walking Horse trail ride is planned for the April meeting, at the farm of the Jack Dingmans, west of Kalamazoo. Dr. and Mrs. J. R. Jones, of Manchester, Mich igan have been asked to show mo vies that they have taken over the years of various shows in Ten nessee. They are very busy peo ple, always coming or going to Tennessee with their fine Walking Horses. Anyone desiring information concerning the “little” Celebra tion in Kalazamoo, July 10-12, should write the Chairman, Mrs. Duane Fankhauser. 30 Ravine Road. Otsego, Michigan. JOINS VOICE PUBLISHING COMPANY IN NEW OFFICE The VOICE Publishing Company announces the addition of Bess Faulkner to the staff of the VOICE of the Tennessee Walking Horse magazine. The publishing company moved to new offices in downtown Chattanooga on April first and Mrs. Faulkner officially joined the staff at that time. She replaces Mrs. Wanda Davis as Reader Ser vice Manager and Circulation Manager. Mrs. Faulkner, who pre fers to be -called “Bess,” has over twelve years experience in the of fice management end of the print ing and publishing business and will certainly add much to the ef ficient handling of new subscrip tions, renewals and circulation problems. She invites your per sonal inquiry to problems regard ing your magazine and requests that all reader correspondence be directed to her as “Dear Bess.” Mrs. Faulkner has an expressed love for the Tennessee Walking Horse and recently learned to appreciate our readers zest for the breed at the Chattanooga Pilot Club Horse Show. She covered this show in depth from inside the ring and learned first-hand how to handle the problems of Horse Show re porting. We welcome “Bess” to the World of the Tennessee Walking Horse” and hope that you will call on her when the need arises. 13
