FIRST LADY , owned by Mr . and Mrs . Ledford , a terrific black filly by MERRY GO BOY out of MID NIGHT DELORES ( now owned by Jim Clay of Rossville , Georgia ) is expected to be a top contender for 1964 honors . The biggest headshaker in the barn is GO BOY ’ S BLUE DUKE , a dark blue roan 2 year old stud that tied sixth in the 1963 Futurity . DUKE is owned by Friendly Associates , an organization consisting of Mrs . E . Cecil Phillips , C . Bruce Spencer , Fred E . Friend and Mrs . L . O . Ledford . Bystanders report that the “ horse > watch ” however is another black filly named SHADOW ’ S HONEY BEE , a big 2 year old that is real “ show mare ” potential . She is also owned by Mr . and Mrs . Ledford . Started late but now coming on strong is MACK K ’ S JETAWAY , a beautiful chestnut sorrel stallion with flax mane and tail , owned by Mrs . E . Cecil Phillips and Fred E . Friend .
Junior horses should be no problem for Mr . Brantley this season and he plans to head for the top with SUN DUSTER , a 3 year old sorrel roan stallion with a flax mane and tail . This is a big horse that Billy held out last year because he was “ just too much horse to show as a two year old .” Fred E . Friend and Mrs . Jewell Brantley are the owners of SUN- DUSTER .
Dr . T . W . Whitfield of Dalton , Georgia has moved his mare SHA DOW ’ S SENORITA to Battleground Stables for 1964 . This well known mare will be shown by Dr . Whitfield in amateur classes and by Mr . Brantley in Mare and Stake classes . She is in excellent shape and is reported doing better than ever .
Stake horses are also in the making as Billy has two top prospects for the big classes . MR . BIG SHOT , owned by Mrs . E . Cecil Phillips and Dr . W . R . Harper ( the big black stallion that Billy showed last year ) and PRIDE OF DECATUR , another black stallion owned by Mr . W . Keith Kropp of Signal
