I look for intelligence , beauty , conformation and ability . 1 feel the Walking Horse has all of these qualities , gives a most pleasurable ride , and they can cover the ground not only efficiently but smoothly and I enjoy riding them . They have a tremendous background and the finest of breeding and 1 feel they are at the head of the list as a pleasure horse . My experience with the Walker has been very brief , but with my experience with other breeds , 1 rate the Walking Horse right at the top . I sincerely hope Bess has a filly so that 1 can , in turn , breed the colt back to a Tennessee Walking Horse ."
As said before , 1 wish I could have told the whole story . It is wonderfully heartwarming and filled with the love of a man for a horse , and the love that was returned with devotion . Art , who is of slight build and bears a striking resemblance to the late Will Rogers , is an honest , sincere , and most devoted man . So , to such a man , I too sincerely hope he has a filly from Bess , so that he can continue his dream and raise fine horses . I also hope that the readers have enjoyed the story of Gallant Bess and Art Parker as much as 1 enjoyed having Art relate it to me .
Shows In Montana Set For Walking Horses
Art Harlow of Whitefisli , Montana , tells Voice readers about two big shows in his big state with Walking Horse owners invited to bring their entries .
First comes the Billings , Montana Show on June 28-29-30 .
Then at Great Falls , Montana on July 5-6-7 takes place the Northwest Championship All Breed Horse Show with purse money , ribbons and trophies valued at $ 7,500 .

Those Huntsville Civitan Club Horse Show promoters have come up with a brand new Walking Class for their Horse Show May 17-18 in that growing city where the Missile Age is making Redstone Arsenal hotter than a depot stove in wintertime . Walking Horse judges will be J . French Brantlev , Manchester , Tenn .; Herschel Talley , Tuscaloosa , Ala .; and E . E . Miller , Murfreesboro , Tenn .
The amiable James K . Taylor , real estate developer and one of the three Spring Jubilee judges for the Columbia show May 31 , June 1 — describes the Walking Man Class to us in the following letter :
" Dear Mr . Green ,
“ Thank you for your card in reference to our ‘ Walking Man Class ’ to be held in conjunction with our Huntsville Horse Show here in Huntsville , May 17 th and 18th . The ‘ Walking Man Class ’ is in conjunction- with President Kennedy ’ s physical fitness program , which does not mean that we agree or do not agree with President Kennedy on any of his issues — ( that ' s cautious wording isn ’ t it ?)— and will be open for contestants of all ages .
“ The object of the ‘ Walking Man Class ’ is speed but the participant must not break a walking gait . You probably have heard of the walking classes held in connection with the Olympics , and this will be something of the same order .
“ We have one local doctor , Dr . J . S . Gowan , who is challenging any coon hunter who thinks he can out-walk him in our contest . We look for the class to have a lot of color and be a lot of fun for the spectators as well as for the participants .”

Saturday Walking Horse classes are Pleasure Horses , riders 15 and over , 2-Year-Old Stake , Junior Riders , 18 and under , Junior Stake ( 3-year-olds ), Amateur Stake , Walking Pony Stake , riders 18 and under , Championship Stake — top money SI00 .
