Why We Sponsor A Priceless TV Program
Folks familiar with our operation—founded 15 months ago of S500 worth
of postage stamps—are doubtless going to wonder how in the world the Voice
of the Tennessee Walking Horse can AFFORD TO SPONSOR a costly TV
program on Station WTVW (Channel 7) at Evansville, Ind. on July 28 in
the afternoon.
The answer is simple. This program COSTS US NOTHING. It is NOT
FOR SALE. It IS PRICELESS. It is given to us by Station Manager James
Ritter and Operations Manager Ulysses Carlini because they like us. Ulysses
Carlini has read our book, he has read our Voice since it started, and he
talked to us on the telephone during the 1962 Celebration. It was about SO
minutes of talking we exchanged then— and we never heard a fellow more
enthusiastic about the Tennessee Walking Horse.
Months passed and early this year a letter came from Ulysses inviting the
Voice to sponsor a 15 to 20-minute Tennessee Walking Horse segment of his
televised Horse Show. It’s a second annual affiair for Channel 7 in Evansville.
So we have arranged for seven different horses to be ridden that represent
to a good degree what a person can expect to see in a Tennessee Walking Horse
Show. They are spoken about elsewhere in Lhis issue. It takes horses and
riders for any horse show. And they are the principals. We are just spectators.
It is hoped that arrangements can be perfected for the Tennessee Walking
Horse segment of this show to be telecast throughout the nation on the ABC-
TV network a short time before the great Tennessee Walking Horse National
Celebration at Shelbyville (Sept. 1-7). Please watch your local schedules and
do not miss this nationwide telecast if it takes place.
Here again is a priceless thing that may come to all of us in the Tennessee
Walking Horse World because of Jim Ritter, station manager, and Ulysses
Carlini and Station WTVW of Evansville, Ind. We are especially proud, also,
that the 2 and ^-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carlini can call by name
every one of the 18 Tennessee Walking Horses (17 of them Grand World
Champions) pictured in color in our Biography of the Tennessee Walking-
Horse. We are prayerfully grateful for everything that furthers Ap preciation
of the breed.
Michiganders Have Own Pleasure Club For TWH
It’s great news to tell the world that
the Tennessee Walking Horse Pleasure
Club of Michigan met at Paw Paw
with Mrs. V. L. Miller hostess and
elected the following officers:
President, Mrs. Darlene Hasse, Au
gusta; vice-president, Ronald Ernbu-
ary, Battle Creek; treasurer, Bill
White, Battle Creek; recording secre
tary, Mrs. George Prifold, Kalamazoo;
corresponding secretary, Mrs. J. Wade,
724 Lakeway Avenue, Titus, Mich
igan.
A standing ovation was given to
Mrs. Russell Hayner, retiring presi
dent of Kalamazoo (a real fine person
who is a special friend of Mary Frances
and Lite Voice Editor). She helped or
ganize the club two years ago and it
''snow-balled” to success under her
leadership, says Mrs. Titus.
The TWH Pleasure Horse Club has
a Junior Club in its setup—and this
junior group is planning its own Jun
ior Walking Horse Club. Juveniles in
the area are invited to “tune in” on
the movement by writing to some of
the senior officers.
Voice Circulation
Information
Right now the Voice is going
through a circulation revolution.
About a good half of our ciculation is
based upon subscriptions that came in
during our first three months of publi
cation. This means many hundreds of
renewals were due within the last three
months—and some hundreds are not
yet paid. It is well that we tell every
one now just how our circulation
policy will work. We plan to place
a label in each copy of this issue going
to a subscriber whose subscription has
expired. The renewal must be re
ceived promptly or the name must
be dropped.
Here is the “why” of that.
There is a national publication used
by advertising agencies in choosing
most of their magazines for advertis
ing purposes. It is a rule of that maga
zine—and its organization—that sub
scriptions that have lapsed by three
months cannot properly count as
sworn paid circulation.
The Voice will qualify as soon as
possible for listing in this advertising
magazine—and the Voice will present
its sworn circulation figure as of Octo
ber 15 on Lhis year and each year
thereafter.
In an issue of the advertising maga
zine dated in 1958, we saw listings of
several horse magazines—but not very
many. On the basis of what we saw, we
feel convinced the Voice right now
reaches far more Tennessee Walking
Horse people than does any other mag
azine of our type—and I also believe
we reach more Walking Horse people
than do all of the magazines of our
type put together.
A sworn paid circulation figure is
precious—if it stands the test when the
circulation list is checked. That means
subscriptions are paid for—-with only
the 3-month allowance. So you see.
Dear Friends, why the Voice is deter
mined to get its house in order. Please
help us.
Knorv Owen E. Andrews?
We have received a letter front

gives no address. He has a Walking
Horse and wants some advice. We ad
