OBION SADDLE CLUB
FIRST SHOW IMPRESSIVE
Somewhat belated , but impressive still , is the report of the results of the first Obion County Horse Show , held June 1st in Union City , Tennessee . Over 1,000 jubilant spectators and 101 entries joined in what could be an annual affair and together produced

FOR SALE an excellent horse show . Horses from all over West Tennessee and West Kentucky were entered and the crowd is reported to have come from an even wider area . Obion Saddle Club President Robert Phillips termed the affair “ a wonderful success .” Regular horse show procedure was followed and of course a full schedule of Walking Horse Classes was on the agenda . Judge Lawrence W . Snelson , of Jackson , Tennessee , Master of Ceremonies Jimmy Small of Benton , Kentucky and Ringmaster Verbal True of Dyer , Tennessee all turned in a creditable evenings work with nothing but praise for the sponsoring organization and the manner in which the show was handled . The results of this show are reported elsewhere in this issue .

1st ANNUAL CALIFORNIA CELEBRATION BIG SUCCESS
Even the weather cooperated for the First Annual California Celebration at the Pomona Fair Grounds June 14 , 15 , and 16 , California ’ s first beautiful sunny week end in quite some time . Ro Swift ( strictly amateur ) show manager , did a job that would do a professional proud in putting on a show that kept the audience clapping and cheering . Clay Robinson , Barn Manager , performed the unheard of with not one exhibitor grousing about accomodations . As some one said —“ Did you know there were that many walking horses in California ?” With 104 entries , most classes were well filled , particularly the pleasure classes , with
20 horses going in the gate for the Pleasure Horse Stake . Trainers worked hard braiding , putting on tail sets , etc . to get horses ready and in the ring on schedule for two or three show classes each performance but they did the impossible and there was hardly a lag in the proceedings .
Comments from spectators who had never seen a walking horse before — “ That looks like fun . I ’ d like to try it !” and exhibitors — “ It was a fun show !” With support like that . They ’ re all set for a bigger and better Second California Walking Horse Celebration in 1964 .
