BRIEF STORY OF A COMMUNITY MIRACLE
( Dear Friends — During my four-month illness ( from which I have totally recovered — see editorial on Page 1 ) — it has been necessary for us to pick up several articles that had been set in type for the training book which we planned — but had to abandon . This pick-up type was set in a wide column that made it likewise necessary to set some of the Registrations in a wider measure . Here is the chapter on the Shelbyville Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration as written and set for use in the training book . It is presented in this issue to provide you adeguate background on this tremendous show . The 25th Anniversary of the National Celebration will be celebrated Sept . 1-7 and special features galore will be included . Our March issue will tell you all about the plans as of that time . They are really great . Material for the following article was taken in a large measure from my book — Biography of the Tennessee Walking Horse — that lists all Celebration blue ribbon winners from 1939 through 1960 ( the book appearing in December , 1960 . Thanks . Ben A . Green .
It would be the ultimate in foolishness for me to edit a Training Book with comprehensive purposes and omit adequate mention of the Tennessee Walking Horse Celebration at Shelbyville , Tenn .— termed by authorities as “ being one of the six greatest horses in the world — and two of them are in England and Scotland — and another in Australia .” Many call it America ’ s Greatest Horse Show .
Here is the entire text of a 15-minute taped history of the Celebration that is presently being used extensively in the sale of a recorder-announcer machine by Robert E . Parker , a collegian son of Vice-President William L . Parker of the Celebration . Robert ’ s permanent address is 764 N . Main St ., Shelbyville , Tenn . Robert has a master tape of this text and also the text of “ What On Earth Is A Tennessee Walking Horse ” as set out in this volume . A number of Tennessee Walking owners have purchased this machine — with tape — to be used in their barns along with a continuous music operation . The tape is carried through the machine in a manner that does not require re-winding . An Alabama lover of Tennessee Walking Horses invented and promoted the machine into a multi-million-dollar industry .
Celebration History In Brief The text follows : “ It is a Community Miracle . That is the only way I can describe the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration here at Shelbyville , Tenn .” said Editor Ben A . Green in his “ Biography of the Tennessee Walking Horse ,” a 300- page history of the breed . He is currently publishing a breed magazine and editing a training book for publication Dec . 1 , 1962 . He has been asked to discuss the Celebration as it is today , and his remarks are : More strides have been taken by the Celebration since
