One advertised horse did not participate because of an injury to a prospective rider. Our box score at the Celebration for the 23 advertised horses shows the following: 1 Grand Championship of the World; 9 Other Championships of the Worl d in various classes—each class at the Celebration representing a Championship of the World in its specific classification, and including Co-Champions in the 2-year-old Stal lion Class that was split into two divis ions for the prelimentary; 7 Reserve Championships of the World for second places; 3 Third Place Ribbons; 3 Fourth Place Ribbons; fi Fifth Place Ribbons; 1 Sixth Place Ribbon; 1 Seventh Place Ribbon; 1 Ninth Place Ribbon; 1 Tenth Place Ribbon; Grand Total: Ten World's Cham pionships out of the 24 awarded at the Celebration; 23 other ribbons. The Voice Editor believes this in dicates: (1) We were mighty fortu nate in that a number of fine friends volunteered to advertise in our maga zine; (2) That we showed good judgment when we placed the Cele bration Judges on our must list to re ceive all copies of the magazine and in some instances sent them two copies; (3) That Voice advertising gets maximum readership because it restricts its emphasis and appeal to the Tennessee Walking Horse and to people interested in this bred; (4) That we are headed in the right direc tion when our motto reads “To main tain a permanent publication that will merit the support of all who love the Tennessee Walking Horse.” Many thanks to everyone. We do not believe advertising anywhere real ly “influences” any judge in the ring. However, we do believe that judi ciously placed advertising does at tract attention to horses and to peo ple and to things—and it makes judges sort of "look” for that item which is advertised—be it horse or human or thing. If that is not abso lutely correct grammar—you try say ing it in that many words. (BAG) N. California Also Promises Contenders Virginia I.amb, who lives in Sac ramento, the capital of California, tells us the statement we quoted Mr. R. Mitchel McClure as making about Southern California being "Tennes see Walking Horse country" should also include Northern California. To tell the truth, we figured “Mitch” was most concerned about the Southern California horses and knew more about them because the bulk of his automobile agencies are situated in that section of the elongat ed state. However, we believe we misquoted him a bit and that he too includes Northern California horses in his prognostication that the Pacific Coast troops will be contenders for Celebration champions in the not too distant future. In discussing this matter with the world’s largest Chevrolet dealer we mentioned the possibility that Pacific Coast horses should be flown to Mid dle Tennessee to compete next year in the 25th Anniversary Celebration that is certain to set new records for something. The major point about the Mcl.ure statement was that “Cali fornia-trained horses" would be in future competition. It appears that “long travel" overland takes so much out of horses aiming for immediate competition that the Pacific Coast units will probably be air-born when they start the invasion of Celebration W o r 1 d ’ s Championship territory.
