Alaska Interest In Walker Noted By Anchorage Man
J . L . McCarrey , Jr ., attorney with P . O . Box 1333 in Anchorage , Alaska , tells us he believes he took the first three purebred Tennessee Walkers to Alaska in 1955 and they are attracting much interest . There were half breeds in the area prior to his action however .
" I have taken a number of people for rides who have expressed their interest in buying Walkers in the future ,” writes Reader McCarrey .
“ If you know of anybody who has some two-year-olds they would like to sell next spring , please have them con tact me at P . O . Box 1333 , Anchorage , Alaska .
“ I am not interested in sellinghorses for money , but only in promoting the breed , and would pass on the names to the seller of any persons that I think would be likely prospects .
“ Several people have inquired about Walkers on the West Coast and find their prices are extremely high in comparison with other purebrecls . Is that true back in Walker county ? It costs SI 17 to ship a horse from Seattle to Seward , Alaska , plus three bales of hay and a sack of oats , and to that , of course would be added the cost of shipment from the seller ’ s place to Seattle . ( Note — Prices vary so largely with the animals as individuals , their training , etc . that the amounts must be considered relatively . We hope some potential sellers will communicate with you .)
