Special Words From The Voice Editor
Dear Friends : There are many things i must tell you in a shorl space . We are “ deliciously squeezed ” in this issue with some coin-bearing advertising . Mary Frances says we really need advertising because we ' re on nobody ' s payroll and all subscription revenue goes into the kitty to guarantee our “ 12 issues or all of your money back ” offer . Can ' t touch that savings account for a year .
We call your attention to a special ad leading off the Trademarket . It tells about a Tennessee Walking Horse Stallion stolen in Bakersfield , Calif , from Charles C . Gerbe , 901 31st St . Hope you help Charlie get that horse back . In the “ old days " horsestealing was a hanging offense .
We call your special attention to all the contents in this magazine . For a brand new comer we did not do so bad . But next year we will be much better . Our great big THANKS to every advertiser . They keep us eating and printing and mailing the Voice to you .
For the last week the Editor has been helping out the Times-Gazette ( daily paper ), so a good friend could lake a vacation . It made us work 100 hours a week like we used to do . but that ' s all right for one week at a time . The Editor will also help the Times- Gazette “ cover completely " the Celebration . We have received a lot of orders for our Celebration Special Service — mailing the paper daily for six days with all Celebration news . It will be worth more than the SI it costs . We invite all to order .
Our Training Book Project is proceeding nicely . That will be worth more than the S5 pre-publication price or we will eat the books .
Some personal news . The Editor ’ s son , Bruce Green , and Bruce ' s wife , Dolly , gave us a fifth grandchild on Saturday , July 14 , at Cooperhill , Tenn . She is Alice Elizabeth , ( their first child ), named for the Editor ’ s first wife who died on Aug . II , 1960 , just as he was finishing the Biography of the Tennessee Walking Horse ( the 300-page history book of the breed .) For a 3-week period Mary Frances ( the Editor ’ s present wife ) had her foster-daughter , Mrs . Louise Campbell , and 23-month-old Bobby as house guests . Every morning the Editor warned his foster grandson “ don ’ t let lliese two women get control of the house , Son .” Bobby took care of that .
He whipped out the two women daily , had them ready for bed at 8:30 p . m . As Maty Frances said , " 1 love him to death but he kills me .” But Mary Frances didn ’ t lose an ounce , and didn ' t lose her smile either .
We are especially proud of other things in this magazine . We are proud of Bloodlines ( P . 30 ) made possible by our friends at the Breeders ’ Association . These are not carried in other magazines that deal in Tennessee Walking Horse news .
But we are most proud of Mrs . Virginia Stephens ' letter about Diana . It also does not appear anywhere else in all the world . That letter will make this magazine remembered — make this issue kept for all time by many , many people . The Diana Stephens Story is a great fact of history for the Tennessee Walking I-Iorse . ( Signed , Ben A . Green , Editor .)
Celebration On Radio ( Cojitiiwed from Page 1 ) other states — in the hookup for Celebration coverage . The WHAL-FM station is heard in a number of states . This has a frequency modulation signal at 102.9 . The standard wave length is 1400 kilocyles ,
