Fairground attraction when school is out, the kids reign supreme. The smell
of deep fat fryers working overtime as well as screams of laughter fills the
summer air. Children running amok, jumping from ride to ride with parents
on tow.
The fairground is a superb place for street photography. This genre doesn't
depend on hours of planning and expensive gear. It simply requires an eye
for moments that occur right in front of you, moments that with a blink of an
eye is lost forever. In order to capture that moment, you have to be ready to
pounce on that opportunity. At the same time attempting to compose the
shot and remain in stealth mode.
Some people like to build up a rapport with the person before taking their
photograph; this may ease any conflicts that might occur. After all, if a
stranger happens to point a camera in your face and takes a photo without
reason, you'd want to know why?
Asking permission to take a photo of someone, then becomes, a street
portrait and not street/candid photography. For me, this defies the whole
concept of street photography, street photography is capturing those
candid moments. A person posing for a photograph has a different
expression/feel to those that are unaware that they are being
photographed. It is the raw and natural expressions that make the images.
