Mark Fenichel
Letting the Music Move Him
Written By Jordan Rosenfeld
M
organ Hill musician Mark Fenichel, known more casually as “Fenny”
or “Harmonica Man” can still remember one of the most vivid moments
when music moved him. Age twelve, at the 1964 World’s Fair in New
York, he was drawn to a bandstand in awe. On stage the great rust-
throated singer and trumpeter Louie Armstrong blew his horn and crooned. “I stood
there mesmerized by what he did, how he played, how he moved and how tight his
full band was,” Fenichel told
TODAY.
When his parents came by and said it was time to leave he refused, insisting that
he stay and watch the entire show. His parents wisely agreed.
