SOUTH EAST ASIA Life is full of surprises and we were one of the latest shockwaves to hit UCC last autumn! Yes we are new on campus. What? How? Why? Ok, here’s the story... A guy who was super bored with life and wanted to make an impact lobbied up three of his friends to pursue this idea that was floating around for awhile - to set up an official representation of SEA students in UCC. There are loads of us Southeast Asians here in Cork studying various degrees, especially health science courses such as medicine and dentistry. [email protected] Despite surviving our inaugural year with flying colours and getting good reception from our members, it is still a pretty new entity with a lot of untapped potential. Hence to all the 1st year SEA students that are new in town just like us (well, we technically might be a year or more senior to you all) do come and join the ever growing family! We have monthly events that range from simple socials at our fav local restaurants for a chat and catch up sessions to all night fun karaoke and dance! If you have a great event idea in mind, do come and drop us a line. seasoc15 uccseasoc SSDP Students for Sensible Drug Policy is a progressive and provocative society on campus. Our mission is to bring about justice in the face of the failed criminalization of members of our society and societies around the globe for non-violent drug offences. Members of SSDP call on the governments to review the outdated drug policies which are in place, and to replace them with a system of decriminalization and regulation of all drugs. The society provides information and guidance on campus for students eager to make a difference in college and indeed, nationally. We want to start the conversation about taking the drug market out of the hands [email protected] SOCIETY BIOS of criminals and passing it into the hands of the competent authorities, thus making drugs safer for all who choose to use them. SSDP is an ideal way to meet and socialise with new people through the many social events that are held throughout the college year. Debates, movie screenings, guest speakers and more are all planned for 2015/2016 in UCC. If this is a topic that sparks your interest or one which you feel passionately about come join us in the conversation, because the time to “Just Say No” is well and truly over. The time for change, the time to get involved and the time to join Students for Sensible Drug Policy is now. Make every voice heard. UCCSSDP uccssdp 51
