POKER
UCC Poker society ran a league competition throughout the year and hosted 20 league events during the 2015 / 2016 college term as well as a league finale “ The Tournament of Champions ”. Members of the society also represented the college in an online Intervarsity ’ s tournament competing with other poker societies from NUIG , CIT , QUB , UL , LIT , UCD and Trinity with 2 UCC players coming in the top 4 . Six UCC Pokersoc members travelled to Limerick on April 11th to compete in the national student championships to mix it up with Ireland ’ s best student players . Again we competed against players from the top colleges in Ireland including Trinity , UCD , WIT ,
NUIG , UL , DIT and Tralee IT . A great day was had by all even though none of us from UCC had any success in the feature tournament . We are a long running society who welcomes newcomers of all skill levels to the games , coaching and mentoring can be supplied to beginners who wish to join us at anytime throughout the year . We hope to have a good representation at Societies Day and to then follow that on with the start of our annual league in which any player that comes along to any of our weekly tournaments throughout the year gets entered into . We hope to have our weekly meeting / tournament every Monday at 6.30 in Elec . Eng . L1 room .

PSYCHOLOGICAL
Psychology by definition is the scientific study of human behaviour . In other words , psychology tries to answer all of our burning lifelong questions like , why did I ask that girl to shift my friend and not me at that teeny bopper disco ? However , it ’ s a case of so many questions and not enough lecture hours to answer them all . This is exactly where the Psychological Society comes in . In past years , the society has tackled psychological questions by holding personality speed dating events , psychological movie thriller nights , presentations from various professional psychologists , as well as embarking on trips abroad in search of answers at psychological conventions !
Psych Soc is also a place where all years of psychology students ( first years to PhD candidates ) can come together , allowing more experienced students to share their wisdom with students who are new to the world of Freud and Zimbardo . Since psychology is so broad it gives us plenty of opportunity to mix and mingle with loads of UCC ’ s other societies and gives us plenty of scope to create new and exciting events ! One event that is an annual hit for us however , and won ’ t be any different this year , is our Psychology Ball .
