MEDICAL All medical students in UCC are automatically members of its Medical Society (MedSoc), but we welcome any students interested in medicine or medical research. We pride ourselves on having a great diversity of members, arguably the best of all UCC’s societies. Starting with 17 year olds coming straight from Leaving Cert to postgraduates and mature students who have been in other professions for the last 20 years. We also have students from dozens of countries around the globe and this is reflected in our events, as there is something for everyone. We host talks on various aspects of medicine and research. [email protected] We have plans in the pipeline for new workshops and talks on wellbeing and mental health. Additionally, members can enter the highly competitive MedCup or hit the slopes in the post-Christmas-exams ski trip. We also hold a great number of social events, with our biggest being the batshit crazy night that is MedBall. We understand that studying medicine is an absolute trek at the best of times, so above all else we aim to keep members sane, provide information about what we will face as doctors and provide premium laughs whenever we can. Ye guys will need the latter for FM1010-may the odds be ever in your favour. uccmedicalsociety uccmedsoc MUSIC Having been declared Ireland’s Best New Society of 2015/16, UCC Music Society enters just its second year in existence. The Society is the birth-child of two former music societies: Live Music Society and Capriccio Music Society. The society’s sole aim is to ensure that UCC students have a great time playing, listening and engaging with music while at UCC. We promote music on campus, through events ranging from small get-togethers like Coffee and Jam to live gigs like our Battle of the Bands competition. We are an allgenre inclusive society and last year, we held events such [email protected] SOCIETY BIOS as metal gigs, a records fair on campus, Swing-dancing Lessons during Cork Jazz week, film screenings, PA training, an Accapella Workshop as well as a Muso’s Match-Making night. The two biggest events of the year are the annual UCC Battle of the Bands Competition as well as last years newly conceived UCC Songwriters Competition. The Music Society also helped in reestablishing the All-Ireland Intervarsities Battle of the Bands competition even going on to host it last year. So if you’re a musician, a songwriter or simply a musiclover, why not get involved with the society this year? UCCMusicSociety uccmusicsoc 41
