LAW
The UCC Law Society is one of the largest and most active
societies on campus. This year will mark the beginning
of the 87th Session and will feature numerous social and
academic events which welcome all students. These events
include House Meetings held every fortnight where notable
guests address the Society. Past guests have included an
address given by President Michael D. Higgins, a speech
on terrorism by Robert Fisk, a debate focusing on the
impact on Ireland in Britain leaving the EU and a speech
on transgender rights given by Lydia Foy.

Debating is a central part of the society and we hold
weekly Speaker Development Sessions where both first
time and experienced debaters are welcome. The Law
Society is then represented by these debaters at Irish and
international debating competitions. The society’s major
social event, which attracts all students, is the annual Law
Ball which will held in October at the end of Law Week.

LGBT*
The LGBT* society is an incredible society which continues
to get bigger and better every year. We provide continuous
support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans* community in
UCC as well as opening up our events and campaigns to our
allies. The society is ever growing through our socials, events
and campaigns, we strive to find the perfect combination
of activism and fun through week long events, national
campaigning and our regular social every Wednesday. This
society has something for everyone who gets involved. It’s got
an energy like no other and this year we plan to take it above
and beyond what has been achieved before.
