ENGINEERING
Are you an Engineer? An engineering student who calls
them selves an engineer because it sounds cooler? Or a nonengineering student who calls themselves an engineer anyway
because you’re just a bit deluded? UCC Engineering Society
is for you. While the society’s membership mainly consists
of students from the School of Engineering, we welcome and work for - every student at UCC with an interest in the
field of engineering. EngSoc is committed to offering all of
its members a social, academic and professional platform to
meet like-minded peers and further their interest in the field.

We organise and provide a vast range of events and
services for our members, from the prestigious Eng Cup to
the not-so-prestigious Sausage Fest, a RAG week all-you-caneat fan favourite. We provide academic tutoring services,
guest speakers and social evenings for our members, and
our annual Engineering Ball is a highlight of the academic
year for any self-proclaimed engineer. If you’d like to know
more about how you can get involved in our events, services
or in the Eng Soc Committee, drop us a line on Facebook,
Snapchat or by email at [email protected].

ENGINNERS WITHOUT BORDERS
Sustainability. Development. Education. If you have an interest
in any of these things, Engineer or not, there is always room for
creative people at EWB. We develop our projects around the
skills of our members and ask only for enthusiasm! Take part in
our “Where there is no engineer” competition and help create
solutions to problems in the third world. We host workshops, like
last year’s very successful “So you think you want to be a relief
worker?”, a crash course in working on the ground in some
of the most challenging environments in the world. Each year
our partnership with EWB Ireland will give a UCC student the
opportunity to volunteer abroad.

Previously, we collaboratively held the “UCC Climate Change
Conference”, and a successful “Mapathon” which had students
mapping uncharted areas, using satellite images! Our schools
competition allows students to mentor TY students, who create
a wind turbine using only recycled materials. We’ve built water
filters from plastic bottles and sand, working speakers for mobile
phones using basic electrical components, and a handheld
generator from magnets! In addition to these projects, we host
numerous social events, some featuring Lego, most featuring
pizza; you’re sure to meet others with similar interests by joining
EWB!
