Economics & Game of Thrones , Economics & Sport , Economics & Comedians ; not things you would expect to be related , but are . At the UCC € CONOMIC $ Society we aim to bring economics to the masses . Regardless of whether you study economics or a related field we would be delighted to welcome you . We discuss topics of national importance such as the homelessness crisis and water charges . We aim to enhance our members ’ understanding of economics in everyday life . Last Year we invited Dr . Joshua Hall of the University of West Virginia to present The Economics of The Simpsons .
Each year we hold an annual conference and welcome renowned speakers such as Tim Harford , David McWilliams and John Fitzgerald to University College Cork . We don ’ t just talk about the economic cultures of faraway lands we visit them . Last year a large group of us travelled to AMSTERDAM , The Netherlands for four days . It was a fantastic and enjoyable experience for everyone , one that we are aiming to repeat this year with another European city . With our annual trip to the Kilkenomics festival in Kilkenny you will be amused by comedians such as Des Bishop and inspired by economists . It is truly a weekend to remember !

ENACTUS
Enactus is the social entrepreneurship society where we use entrepreneurial skills to do societal good ! We develop projects , ideas and businesses that directly impact humanity . At Enactus we believe that you can ’ t talk someone out of poverty , awareness doesn ’ t reduce pollution , grow food or heal the sick . All that takes doing and that ’ s exactly what Enactus is about ! You don ’ t have to be in a specific course or be studying a certain area . Our members come from all corners of the college because as long as you have an interest in getting involved then that ’ s everything you need ! Nine times out of 10 the people who come up with the best ideas are a couple of undergrads in the new bar who say ‘ Hey , had this idea , want to help ?’ At Enactus we develop these ideas into something tangible ! We have weekly meetings where all members come together for 1 hour to develop their projects , define their goals and get advice and insights from everyone around them . When in comes to these meetings community is very important and 10 % of your time should go towards helping other projects that you have no involvement in ! Whether you have an idea or not come to our weekly meeting and develop your idea or join someone else ’ s , everyone is welcome !
