CANCER
The UCC Cancer Society was formed under the knowledge
that the majority of people on campus have been affected by
cancer; we want to fight back and over the past four years our
society has raised over €150,000 for cancer charities across
Ireland. We have achieved this through a variety of events and
fundraisers, the biggest being our annual Relay for Life event.
We’ve collaborated with so many great societies in UCC such
as the Harry Potter Quiz last year and also the Open mic night
with Music Soc. The rumours you’ve heard about us are true too,
CancerSoc do bring the party. Every year since our creation
we’ve organised an annual skydive raising thousands for charity

and this has brought so many people together from all different
societies and clubs. As well as fundraising and partying we
also raise awareness of different types of cancers; we regularly
encourage people to touch themselves. We’re very proud of
how quickly our society has grown, with only four years of
CancerSoc history so far, we’ve gone on to win Best Event &
Best Charitable Event in UCC and Best Promotional Campaign
at the national BICS awards. We’ve got some serious ambitions
for the year to come so if you’d like to do something to really
make a difference to the world, make some friends and have
some craic, then we’re the society for you!

CHEMICAL
UCC Chemical Society is great to join if you are doing
or have any interest in chemistry. We are affiliated with
the Royal Society of Chemistry in England and host a
wide range of events every year.
We are a small society and would love to get ideas for
more events from our members and committee to make
the society and its events geared towards what is wanted
by the student body (and some lecturers/staff as well!)
We organise an annual ball, quizzes, movies and
demonstrations as well as socials and games nights. It’s
a great place to get to know people in similar degree
outlets and of similar interests as you, and have fun while
doing it.
We encourage anybody who is interested to join and
attend some of our events which will be going on
throughout the year.
