NEW HEAD OF GAVILAN’S EDUCATION FOUNDATION AND ALUMNI RELATIONS Bobbi Jo Palmer A self-described “get it done” person, Bobbi Jo Palmer hopes to usher in “A New Day” at the Foundation. As the new coordinator of the Gavilan College Education Foundation and Alumni Relations, Bobbi Jo Palmer, who started in April, brings depth to the position. A life-long resident of South County with generational roots in the community, she has built professional connections in community, business, organizing, event planning and publishing over the past few decades. “Because of her fund raising, event planning and community connections, I knew she would be able to connect with our alumni throughout the district,” said Dr. Kathleen Rose, Superintendent/President of Gavilan College. Prior to Gavilan College, Palmer worked with Out & About Magazine. She joined publisher Sylvia Myrvold in 2008, building up ad sales and expanding its event and bridal coverage. Palmer bought the publication when Myrvold retired and continued as publisher until 2016. Out & About was then purchased by New South Valley Media, owner of several local newspapers. Palmer is a member of the Gilroy Rotary and a 2016 graduate of Leadership Gilroy. She has been getting a warm welcome, both on campus and in the community. “So far I am getting great feedback from the community: excitement that the Foundation will be more active and that the Alumni Association will be brought back to life. I’d like to hear more of our alumni’s stories. I’m also looking for people who would like to get involved, as volunteers, donors, or board members!” Email Bobbi Jo Palmer at: [email protected] or call (408) 852-2826.
