# 10 : Garlic
Garlic , part of the same family that the onion hails from , can be up to five times as deadly in a dog .
The ingestion of garlic causes oxidation in the red blood cells , causing them to rupture . This also causes other gastric issues such as vomiting , drooling and extreme upset stomach .
As with onion poisoning , the onset of symptoms can be delayed for several days .
Extremely small quantities may be okay but large quantities can be deadly , especially in Japanese breeds such as the Akita .
# 11 : Raisins , Grapes and Currants
Even an extremely small amount of these can be toxic to your dog as they produce acute kidney failure .
This applies to all other products with grape and raisins as well , such as grape juice , nut mixes that contain raisins , bread and bagels , and breakfast cereals .
It ’ s not quite understood how the reaction occurs in dogs but symptoms are usually immediate and require vomit inducing charcoal to decontaminate as well as monitoring if your dog has ingested any foods from the grape family .
