Waste management update Water management update
With a continued focus on campus waste management
the University has strengthened its campus wide recycling
performance and resource recovery programs. The most
significant achievement across 2018 was the integration of
recycling and resource recovery options in the Residential
Colleges on the Toowoomba Campus. Priority focus continues to centre on groundwater
management and the progressive expansion of rainwater
harvesting opportunities. Across 2018 the following key
water harvesting projects have been achieved:
One of the highlights of the year would have to be the
increased level of student engagement and the development
of the ‘Odd Mug Boards’ to reduce the need for single use
cups in the dining halls. In conjunction with the Environmental
Office, the Residential Colleges Environment and Sustainability
Student Committee sourced and activity encouraged the use
of reusable mugs. • Toowoomba - rainwater harvesting off P7, P10 and P12
to feed directly into the agricultural dam
• Toowoomba – 192KL rainwater harvesting/storage
project with a supporting tie line to the Japanese Garden
• Toowoomba – development of 250KL water harvesting/
storage project to support reduced potable water usage
in the change rooms and showers at the CBRC.
