Amoria Bond Charitable Trust AUGUST 2017 Carole Hudson, Chair of Project Peru “Transforming lives, sharing experiences and fulfilling a promise made seven years ago, this is the amazing achievement of Amoria Bond as in August 2017 they completed the 101st house in Las Laderas de Chillon, a desert shanty town perched on the sandy foothills of the Andes on the outskirts of Lima, Peru. When Amoria Bond met Project Peru, a small, lively, voluntary UK-based charity offering food, clothes, shelter, education, health and fun to the fifty children living in their refuge near Las Laderas de Chillon, the project to build 100 houses for those living in extreme poverty was launched: it seemed 'mission impossible’. From an initial meeting seven years ago the project to build 100 houses has developed into much more. The dedication and determination of Gareth, Daniel & Nick have inspired their staff to volunteer, to fundraise, and to come to Peru and literally to build the houses! Working with a team of local builders organised by Rosa Romero, long term social worker and soul of the shanty town, the Amoria Bond teams of volunteers soon became friends and part of the shanty town community, sharing hard work and relaxation and lunch in the soup kitchen, as well as football and a beer! Out of friendship 101 houses have appeared and the lives of more than 100 families..600 people..have been transformed. Although there is no running water or electricity a house with a floor, a door and a window instead of a sheet of plastic and a few bits of wood gives the owner a sense of dignity, a feeling of safety and hope and encouragement that they are not forgotten, and a new life and some independence attainable: gracias Amoria Bond. The link between Amoria Bond and Las Laderas is Project Peru..and their refuge in the desert shanty towns is home to the Amoria Bond volunteers: home in every sense...the children and staff welcome Daniel and his team as old friends and share fun, football, smiles and much more. Not only has Amoria Bond achieved their goal of 100 houses but also have provided the goods to fill the Christmas 'baskets' that Project Peru distributes to those in extreme poverty… transforming Christmas and bringing joy, food and a real celebration to those who are excluded. Project Peru has also received donations of computers in the past from Amoria Bond. So much to celebrate. Amoria Bond we appreciate your friendship and congratulations on an amazing achievement. We have had consistent contact with the same Directors of AB from the beginning and this has ensured the effectiveness of this partnership which we feel sure has added a positive dimension to the lives of the participants and the development of company itself, as well as making a significant difference to the families who have directly benefited, and to the wider community. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.” 17
