soon; a couple freestyle videos
— but yes — I’m going to put
something out really soon.
and that’s the best thing about
you. You’re fresh, talented and you
are doing things the smart way.
Dilly: You attended Queen of the
Ring’s No Holds Barred event. Tell
me what you thought about the
event.
Montez Love: Thank you, Dilly.
I’m trying; it’s hard. You either
have to be a thug or out in these
streets or live what you rap about.
I just want to have fun.
Montez Love: The event was epic.
I’m not just talking about the
battle rappers. I mean the fans, the
venue, the league itself — it was
pandemonium at its finest; the
best event I’ve ever been to.
Dilly: That event was great, I had
the full fan experience.
Montez Love: Same here. I love
QOTR. Some of the girls are the
reason that I’m battling now.
Dilly: Tell me some of the girls
that influence you.
Montez Love: C3, definitely. She
brings that dark-but-light side to
battle rap. What I mean is that
she’s not afraid to share her past
and all she has been through; it
makes her a better rapper and she’s
damn near elite. Jaz the Rapper;
I guess on an educational aspect.
She’s so intricate at times. I can’t
stand her ass, but I love her at the
same time (Montez laughs), but
I do respect Jaz. She didn’t get
the respect she deserved because
she wasn’t a common gun-bar
using emcee; she found her own
lane and she’s doing zero-to-one
hundred really quickly in it.
Dilly: I feel that you — as an artist
and as a battle rapper — are just
you being you. It’s so important
56
Dilly: I think too many people
lost the aspect of having fun with
it; there are too many Hollywood
people.
Montez Love: Yeah. People get
these views and then all of a
sudden they want ten-thousand
to battle. i don’t care if i ever
get signed. It would be nice, but
that’s not my main goal. I want to
finish college and have a career, or
otherwise, I would be living the
same dream almost every other
African-American man is living
— to become a rapper; It isn’t for
everyone. I’ll battle anyone that
wants to battle me though.
Dilly: I respect that. Battle rap
is about competition, and tiers
separate rappers so much that they
forget that everyone deserves a
shot, at least once.
Montez Love: Amen.
Dilly: I absolutely thank you for
allowing me to interview you. I
feel like this gives people a more
personal feel of you; I know I got
that.
Montez Love: Thank you so much
for the opportunity. Shoutout
to you and Rzilla. This is the
world’s most respected battle rap
magazine. #salute
