Learn how to get involved. Message from the Editor! For some, Thanksgiving break is a chance to recharge; take a break from papers, projects, and classroom lectures; spend time with family and friends, and have a traditional Thanksgiving meal. For others, especially those who are unable to make the trek home, Thanksgiving break is a long awaited mid-semester long weekend; it’s a chance to catch up on some much needed sleep. No matter your views on the holiday, in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving break, I encourage you to plan out exactly what you need to get done before, during, and after your break. Your plan should include everything from academic – related projects to who you will spend the holiday with to transitioning back into school mode after the holiday. Here are just a few tips to help make your Thanksgiving get off to a good start: • • • • Get your academics in order: Review your class syllabus and speak with your instructor to determine if your class will be meeting on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving; or if you need to turn in a project before the break. You don’t want to wake up on Thanksgiving morning and realize that you forgot to turn in a major assignment (worth a significant percentage of your grade). Be proactive. Know what you need to complete and turn in before the break. Know where you are going: American tradition of Thanksgiving is about being with family and friends and eating lots of good familiar foods. But if you are unable to return home to be with family, chances are, you have some friends who would enjoy your company for the holiday. Make plans to do something fun and relax: Before you realize it, Thanksgiving break will be over. You should definitely make plans to do something other than eating and sleeping. Something as simple as planning to go for a long walk can do wonders for your soul (and your health). Always acknowledge and appreciate the many treasures in life: Gratitude should not be reserved for a seasonal holiday. There is 2 Where Do You Get Your News? Open Forum Discussions 3 Spotlight!
