Infant Mortality Rate Reduction - TIMOR LESTE
In September 2016 Rotary Inverell will build a three
bed delivery ward to replace the existing inadequate rooms. This new Bairo Pite Clinic (BPC) facility is expected to attract more expectant mothers.
Additionally, the unit will provide the 30 trained
Child Birth Assistants (CBA’s) Outreach Program
with improved training opportunities for their return to their remote villages to help deliver babies.
BPC currently provides 7200 pre-natal care consultations per year and delivers 1600 babies per year.
Timor-Leste has 45,000 births/year, of these
270 mothers and 3325 babies die during childbirth
The infant mortality rate is 75 per 1000 live

Only 30% of births are attended by skilled health personnel, with BPC and CBA’s attending 32%
Each CBA attends about 110 births per year; therefore, 3300 women outside Dili have the benefit of their basic
skills to assist/diagnose if medical intervention is needed.
The ward will be an extension of the solar system installed in 2014. This was significant as cultural norms require
bathing with hot water, which used to be stored in thermos flasks. After installing the solar system there was an
increase in births at BPC. With the completion of the new unit BPC is expecting a further increase in births at the
clinic.

Donation of 40 Hearing Aids to National ENT Hospital
- Hanoi, VIETNAM
Presentations: On Friday 13th May 2016, Rotary International Representative for Vietnam PDG Danny Low and
M/s Trang Le, Director of Asia Pacific Desk, PACCOM were
warmly welcomed at the ENT Hospital, Hanoi., Vietnam.
PDG Danny Low made the presentation of the 40 Hearing
aids to the Hospital Director Vo Thanh Quang.

PDG Danny Low, Danny is the primary coordinator for
this project since 2004. Support have been given to
schools for children with impaired hearings in Ho Chi
Minh City and Hanoi.

NSW for checking the donated hearing aids. Mr Christopher Brew, Audiologist of Connect Hearing, Mosman.
Christopher volunteered his services to clean, test and make sure the hearing aids we are donating are in
good operating order. These donated hearing aids are all ready to be fitted
Volunteers and Members of the RC Mosman for their time in collection, sorting and packing the hearing aids.
Main Mission of this project is to change lives with the donation of hearing aids to children and persons suffering from hearing loss and impairments. Research showed that early intervention for children with hearing impairment will improve normal child development. For the seniors and aged persons with the restoration of hearing
will improve their quality of lives.
