Earlier this year, the campaign ‘This Girl Can’ made women gain confidence to get up and get fit without the fear of judgment. On that advert, football was one of the sports girls participated in to keep fit; this article is for me to take you down a road to persuade you to try new heights in sports and understand what some ‘fierce’ female footballers go through. Women’s football has been around for approximately 100 years, from the early periods of the First World War and goes on to this day as this sport has brought females around the world take part in. Looking back on the History of Women’s football we have a local team who brought the game to a whole new level. Dick Kerr Ladies who was established from 1917 – 1965 based in Preston was a female team, which brought women’s football to a whole new perspective; even one game back in 1920 attracted a crowd of 53,000 with another 10-15,000 rejected because the capacity was too big. Even the male Everton in our generation couldn’t get full capacity. In the 21st Century women’s football has come back to get the status it once had, from academy teams in the women’s FA to sessions in the leisure centre there are places full of opportunity to start football for genuine interest or to keep fit. I had the honour talking to 3 girls from PNEWFC - Development Team Courtney Macpherson, Beth Wilson and Emma Hickson, who has all, took on football in a different format and want to in their professional careers. As once team mates I never knew what got these girls into this sport, I wanted to know their insights of the sport and personal opinions.
