The Royal Wessex Yeomanry is the United Kingdom's only Armoured Reserve Regiment
Since 1999, the Royal Wessex Yeomanry has been training part time soldiers to crew the Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank, so that in a time of national emergency the reserves can bolster their full-time counterparts. In addition, the regiment has also provided troops to support operational commitments such as Operations HERRICK, TELIC and PITCHPOLE - Flood relief in the UK. In all there has been much success.
With the publication of Army 2020, the army is becoming more intergrated between its part-time and full-time units and has further increased the opportunities for reservists.
More equipment and increased availabiliity of training has meant that our soldiers are more than ever enjoying an interesting and challenging part-time profession in addition to their civilian careers.
