Supporting

The Army Reserve, in addition to the part-time wage available, supports our soldiers in other ways that can help financially throughout their careers.

Right from the point of joining, there is opportunity to bolster your annual income whilst doing challenging, interesting and enjoyable training.

The following paragraphs will describe in what ways you could benefit by being a reservist.

The British Army is offering a number of incentives for Direct Entrants or ex-regulars both officers and other ranks, from £300 - £10,000 spread over time, dependant on training completed.

You can find out more by speaking to an Army Careers Advisor for direct entrants and ex-regulars, or HR Admin or RCMO for Regulars.

Financial Incentive - Joining

After completion of Basic Training every reserve soldier is eligble to qualify for this tax free sum. Reciept is dependant on the accomplishment of required annual training. With duration of service it increases from around £400 to £1700 over five years and is recieved every April.

Tax-Free Training Bounty

When travelling to and from training with the Army Reserves your travel by car or public transport will be covered on normal Mandatory Training Days (MTDs). For rail transport options there is the HM Forces Railcard which, if you are eligble, can be purchased through your unit HR Admin Staff and offers 1/3 off rail fares.

With each progression in your career, be it a promotion, time served or qualification, there will be incremented increases in pay relative to your current situation. The difference in what you earn for the Reserves is that it will also be dependant on how much training you do during each year.

Incremented Pay Scale

In each of these areas, what an individual is eligible for can be relative to their individual status within their unit and relative to their training, rank and time served.
