IN OUR INCRESING GLOBAL SOCIETY, ALL STUDENTS SHOULD LEARN FOREIGN LANGUAGES
It is no wonder that nowadays the world is often referred to as „The global village“ considering how it is becoming more open everyday.
Big technological innovations have enabled people to connect with differrent parts of the world. However, in order to do that without any limitations, people must know foreign languages. This is especially true for students whose native languages is not English. Chinese and Spanish are languages with more native speakers, but English is today’s international language. It is, of course, also very useful to know more foreign languages than just English.
Another reason why students should learn languages is because it is proven that learning languages is easier at a younger stage of life. This shows that students should start to learn languages early and get a better grasp of them. In addition, if students learn one of two languages at an early stage of their lives, they will open a lot of possibillities for themselves.
Studying abroad, meeting new people and just being able to understand the information you need are just some of the possibillites and advantages of knowing foreign languages. And when is the best time to embrace all these if not when you are a student. Improving yourself is unbelivably easier when you know more than one language, because then you can do it in other countries beside yours, or you can use the internet to a greater degree.
Last but not least is the fact that knowing more than one language is starting to become a necessity. More companies are looking for young people who are not only experts in a certain field but are also to speak two or even more languages. This shows that if students want to find a job when they finish school, knowing languages will benefit them a great deal.
The importance of learning languages is greatly shown in a Serbian saying that would be translated as: „Your worth is equal to the number of languages you can speak.“
