EDITORS NOTE As a Colorado native I grew up reading Charlie Meyers, Ed Marsh, Ed Dentry, and Giles Alkire. Looking back I realize how spoiled we were to have such a wonderful assortment of great writers covering fishing in Colorado. At least once a week you could read about the outdoors in The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News. Then every two weeks a new issue of Colorado Fishing & Hunting News would hit the stands. We didn’t have ten big box tackle shops spread throughout town, but we had multiple writers reaching out to Colorado fisherman frequently. The Rocky Mountain News and Colorado Fishing & Hunting News have been gone for years. The Denver Post recently decided to quit covering outdoor sports altogether. The same group of outdoors men and women that can support multiple big box tackle shops spread throughout the state somehow don’t warrant local media coverage. Here at Born To Fish Media that didn’t sit well and we aim to provide the local anglers with the best fishing magazine this state has ever seen! Before I talk about BTFM magazine I want to honor and pay our respects to those that have reached out to the local fishing community in the past. The guys I mentioned above were huge influences on so many anglers in in Colorado for Decades. The writer nearest and dearest to my heart has always been Giles Alkire. He’s words jumped off the page at me and sent my young imagination off to the woods envisioning myself going on the adventures he’d describe in his columns. Collectively the writers above covered a little bit of everything. They all knew their job wasn’t only to help anglers to catch more and bigger fish… it was to tell stories, highlight local anglers doing something phenomenal, and they certainly weren’t afraid to call out organizations that needed a kick in the rear when they weren’t doing their job well. They knew to covering fishing in Colorado is a multifaceted ordeal and to be a great ambassador for Colorado anglers they’d have to wear many hats.
