Takes Position Opposing “Strong Mayor” The members of BusinessVoice of Greater Lakeland, Inc. unanimously agreed to take a position in opposition to the proposed change to Lakeland’s current form of government, popularly known as “Strong Mayor.” The vote occurred at the committee’s regularly scheduled monthly meeting held on May 17, 2017. “It is the opinion of BusinessVoice, Inc., the political arm of the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce, that the current ‘council-manager’ form of government in Lakeland best serves the interests of the community and should remain the same at this time,” said Mike Hickman, Chair of BusinessVoice. BusinessVoice of Greater Lakeland, Inc. is a Political Action Committee created in 2000 as an organization to support pro-business candidates and to promote issues which impact the business community.
