Launched at the Fruit Logistica event in Berlin the Reefl ex is described as the “fi rst and only monobloc fl exitank”. The system was developed in partnership with German logistics fi rm Teconja and Turkish fl exitank manufacturer Liquatrans. Reefl ex is described as an ideal solution for transporting liquids that require refrigeration, like fruit juices, milk, etc, as well as being an alternative to breakbulk. Bag capacities range from 12,000 to 24,000 litres. Available for 40ft reefer containers the tank can be installed in just three minutes, it is claimed. Thanks to an external pumping system, the bag is fi lled and emptied in 35 minutes due to its adapted design. Moreover, Reefl ex helps maintain the product’s nutritional and chemical properties thanks to a sterile environment and controlled temperatures precisely maintained between -35degC and +20degC. Each single-use bag is entirely recyclable, is produced based on the needs of customers and meets the highest level of hygienic and safety constraints. The system allows users to fi ll up and empty the bag without someone being present in the container during these operations. MSC, a privately owned group based in Switzerland, operates a network of over 480 offi ces in 150 countries, and employs a team of more than 60,000 people. Its fl eet of 460 container vessels has an intake capacity of 2.75 million TEU and the network of sailing schedules spans 200 routes, calling at 315 ports. Among its many cargo specialisms, MSC is an experienced carrier in chemical transport. Staff based in agency offi ces around the globe, have fi rst-hand experience of local requirements and regulations regarding chemicals/dangerous goods in ports. Their focus is ensuring that the highest level of safety and environmental standards are met. MSC also has a specialist chemical support department based at its home port of Antwerp, Belgium. It is this department which ensures shipments meet the stringent compliance requirements of the IMDG code, and provides any necessary contingency plans en route. Specialist chemists ensure the chemical cargo (and the box it sits next to) is stowed and shipped in-keeping with the necessary legal and safety requirements. MSC was looking for an IMDG Code training solution which could be rolled out globally across its network of offi ces. The company purchased the SCORM version of IMDG Code e-learning to allow students to train using the company’s learning management system. The project team implemented the Amendment 37-14 last year and will be implementing the Amendment 38-16 training programme over the next few months. This programme uses a wide range of the e-learning courses available, to ensure that staff are receiving the most appropriate training for their job role. MSC is also incorporating the 49 CFR training module, which looks at the additional requirements in 49 CFR when shipping into/ from the USA under the IMDG Code provisions. To date, the company has successfully trained 21,000 people working as part of the worldwide MSC network. This includes agents, fl eet operators and terminals. For several years, MSC has also been using Exis Technologies Hazcheck compliance system to check shipments against the International Maritime Dangerous Goo
